Renew Your Smile
Dental Bridges Syracuse
Missing teeth can smudge even the most beautiful of smiles, but Syracuse cosmetic dentist Dr. Bernadine Martin can restore the beauty through the use of dental bridges.
Dental bridges are made of porcelain which is a natural tooth-colored material. In the gifted hands of Dr. Martin, dental bridges seamlessly replace the missing teeth lost by disease or injury.
A fixed dental bridge is a device used to fill the space left from a missing tooth, or teeth, that has either fallen out or been removed. A typical dental bridge consists of a pontic (a filler tooth) that is attached to two surrounding abutments (dental crowns). Once competed, this dental bridge is bonded in to the mouth. If a dental bridge is not used, the space caused by the missing teeth will allow the remaining teeth to shift out of place causing expensive problems to your bite, jaw and joint problems and periodontal diseases.

Dental Bridge Process
Dental bridges replace the missing teeth with artificial teeth. The dentist will begin by preparing the surrounding teeth by cleaning and removing any plaque and decay that remains and reducing them so that the dental crowns can be fitted. The dentist will then take a mold of the gap where a tooth is missing, and then send it to a laboratory to prepare a customized dental bridge. The bridge is set into place and the artificial tooth is securely cemented to the adjacent teeth, restoring the attractive natural appearance and functionality of the tooth that was lost. If a resin-bonded bridge is chosen, the artificial tooth is secured by means of a metal appliance that attaches to the backs of adjacent teeth.
In certain cases, the dentist may decide a dental implant is a better alternative than a dental bridge due to no surrounding teeth for support of the bridge.
